How to Stop Spam Text Messages - UGH I HATE THESE!

So today I got another of those dreaded SPAM text messages again.  I. have been getting them more and more over the past couple of months (with increased frequency).  Every time I do I say to myself  "self, you really gotta look into putting a stop to this!"

Today was finally my breaking point.  I marched right over to my computer and did some research on how to  curb this pesky problem.

Here are some tips I stumbled upon for a few of the top carriers in the U.S.

  • Verizon Wireless:  Log-in to your "My Verizon" account from the Verizon Wireless web site.  Under "My Services," select "SPAM Controls".  You will have the option to block text messages from the Internet (which, according to my research is where the majority of Spam texts originate) or to block up to 15 phone numbers and email addresses from sending you text messages.  Just my two cents, but I don't have any friends or family that use the internet to send text messages, do you?
  • AT&T: You can reply to unsolicited short codes (not full numbers - those shorter codes that are sometimes used by companies and spammers) with "STOP" in the body of the response to prevent future messages from that short code. To block specific 10 digit numbers from sending texts or calls, you will need to sign up for a paid service from AT&T called "AT&T Smart Limits for Wireless."
  • Sprint: Log into your Sprint account from the Sprint PCS web site.  From there you can block specific phone numbers or email addresses from sending you text messages. You are also encouraged to call Sprint customer service to report SPAM text messages.
Disclaimer: this is just some friendly advice based on my own Web research.  I am not an expert nor do I have an affiliation with any of these carriers.  This is also not a comprehensive list  and I cannot accuracy - I encourage you to use this as a starting point to do your own reasearch.  I'd love to hear additional tips from you in the comments section!

Some Thoughts of the Day

  1. I don't blame Obama.  I blame the system.  Nothing will work right now no matter who is in power.
  2. I am an outcast today because I am not a fan of any sports.  But I am a fan of people. Good thing I have Bravo TV.
  3. I want to visit New Jersey.  This fascinating place is drawing me in.  I have a feeling I may be disappointed.
  4. Wonder if there are other people out there who just want to marry a friend for insurance/tax breaks and companionship - nothing else. Not the worst idea.
  5. RIP to all those we lost in the last week.  Not just the famous people.
  6. I'm eating gluten free and feeling better. But I'm in a slump. Would love some ideas.
